This listing is for the one (1) Common Sage herb plant that ranges in size between 3 and 5 inches in height.

They will be guaranteed vibrant and healthy and ready for transplanting. We do not ship with the pot as the pot allows for too much soil moisture evaporation. This herb is native to the Mediterranean region and is now widely cultivated. 

General Description: Woody-stemmed, semi-shrubby perennial herb. 

Hardiness Zone: 4 to 8 
Maintenance: Medium 

Mature Height: 2 to 2 ½ feet 
Mature Width: 2 to 2 ½ feet 

Plant Details: 

Growth Habit: Mounding, and spreads at a medium rate. Taller plants may require staking. 

Leaf Structure: Ovate, furry grey-green leaves, nearly white underneath due to short hairs. They have a wrinkly appearance. They are very fragrant and can grow to be 3 to 6 inches long. 
Stem Structure: Fuzzy, green to grey-silver and square. 
Bark Structure: Woody as it matures.

Soil Preference: Sand, loam, chalk. Prefers well-drained. 
Watering Preference: Light to medium. Too much water can be fatal. 
Sunlight Preference: Full sun. 

Bloom Time: June 
Bloom Color: Bluish purple 2-lipped tubular flowers, 1 to 3 inches long, whorl around upright spikes. 

Fruit Production: N/A 
Nut Production: N/A 

Main use of plant: 
Indoor: Great for kitchen windows (or any other sunny window!)  

Outdoor: Herb and vegetable gardens, pollinator garden, mixed in with perennials in flower gardens. Great as a patio plant. 

Winterization Methods: Mulch around the base of the plant before winter sets in if grown in the ground. If grown in containers, simply bring them inside and place in a sunny window. 

Fun Fact: Sage has been grown for centuries for its food and healing properties. Since ancient times, it’s been used for warding off evil, snakebites, increasing women’s fertility, for hair care, nervous conditions, mental conditions, inflammation of the mouth, tongue, and throat, and to reduce fevers. 

General Notes: 

Resistant to deer, rabbits, and drought. 

Sage was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. 

Culinary – it has a strong, slightly peppery flavor. Use it in stuffing, with potatoes and other vegetables. 

Recent research has suggested that sage may have positive effects on human brain function, improving memory and attention in the young, old, and those with Alzheimer’s Disease.

We use a preventive program for pests with the use of Ladybugs, Green Lacewings, Praying Mantis, and Predatory Mites to battle soft bodied bugs and Nematodes in the soil to combat any soil dwelling pests. Soil pH level guide: Acid to Neutral to AlkalineAcidic soil has a pH of 1 to 6.5. Neutral soil has a pH of 6.6 to 7.3. Alkaline soil has a pH of 7.4 to 14. If you do not know your garden's pH level, please go out and buy a cheap soil pH testing kit which can be found in any hardware store, typically under $5.00.
