“GOODY GOODY GUMDROPS”
WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and Hard-To-Find original
Buddah Records very first PROMOTIONAL STEREO press released by Buddah Records,
made and distributed in Chile in 1970 by Discos Philips (Philips Records),
licensed from Buddah Records, Germany, catalog number 203.014, with machine
etched matrix numbers 00 203014 S1 8 6 (P) 1968 A9 ◊Z in Side 1 and 00 203014
S2 8 6 (P) 1968 ◊Z in Side 2, with traditional multicolored/black Buddah
Records labels. Yes, Sirs, ANOTHER FIND from Chile!!!
“Goody Goody Gumdrops” was originally released
in 1968 in USA but we had to wait until 1970 to see this third studio album by 1910
Fruitgum Co. released here in Chile and like in so many cases of the period we
got it with an UNIQUE COVER!!! Cover is made of an only piece of thin cardboard
folded in the middle, so 3 sides are open, faking a gatefold cover and kept
together for an outer plastic bag. Front cover keeps strictly the original
German artwork, with Buddah Records at top left corner and catalog number (same
German catalog number) at top right corner. Back cover is totally different,
with the album title written in English only and tracklist written in Spanish,
translated to English (some songs keep the original English title because they
don’t have a Spanish translation), with full credits for songwriters and play
time of each song, with a box at right half with the name of each member of the
band, his age and instrument, and full credits for songwriters, direction and
arrangements. The promo stamp, “DISCO PROMOCIONAL – PROHIBIDA SU VENTA”
(Promotional Record – Sale Forbidden), is embossed at top right corner of front
cover. In labels the album title and tracklist are also written like in back
cover, with full credits for songwriters. It’s interesting to notice that in
back cover it’s clearly informed this record was released here in Chile by
Discos Philips but in labels the company informed is Philips Chilena S.A., both
names for Philips Records. So, here you have the chance to get and own this
MEGARARE CHILEAN PRESS, PROMOTIONAL, of this classic “Bubblegum” band of the
‘60’s, A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and collectors of 1910 Fruitgum
Company and Bubblegum Pop/Beat music of the ‘60’s.
The cover was already described and it’s in great VG+ or
EX- condition, clear and clean, with light ring marks, with light wear in all
the edges, more evident in corners and the mouth edge, with little rips and
faint creases, some faint age browning and faint blemishes in back cover, with
a small “black” tear at the face. The record is in superb EX- or EX condition both
sides, glossy and clean, with minimal scuffs and light hairlines, and some soft
scratches, which of course don’t affect sound at all. Labels are in absolute NM-
or NM condition both sides, clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole wear and
the name of a radio station stamped in both sides. The sound is in absolute EX
or even EX+ condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, virtually no
background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), with constant
very soft crackles and some occasional minimal light clicks here and there,
mostly evident in the silent parts and at the end of song “Mr. Cupid”, which
don’t cause major distraction from the loud and clean sound this record keeps
from the beginning to the end, most of songs play in strong NM condition. Overall,
this is a great record with still a glossy look, almost immaculate labels and great
sound quality after about 54 years, maybe not for the strictest Minty minds or
audiophiles, but for sure a record which won’t disappoint anyone and will
satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this
Chilean press!!! And keep in mind this record has an UNIQUE COVER, an UNIQUE
BACK COVER and it’s PROMOTIONAL!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! WOW!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the
cover and labels in detail.
Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last
second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from
Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South
American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and
don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this
record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…
Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best
regards from Chile
_________________________________________________________
We don’t use the generic “VG”
most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or
“Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in
professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a
little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can
use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.
MINT (M): I only use this
grade for Sealed records.
NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new
condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some
very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The
cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in
like perfect condition.
EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is
very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t
affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.
VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays
no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and
the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,
without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has
noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The
cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits,
discoloration, etc.
FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly
and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.
POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface
noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD (B): The record is unplayable or
might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK
We don’t have anything to hide and we know the
buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of
sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know
that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive
the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive
feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who
receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
