Up for auction  is this LARGE gas lamp fitting , circa 1920s, with double mantle superheater fitting, still 'in gas' with original 'flytrap' bowl shade .

Styled as  'semi-indirect' lighting, and designed to look identical to the electric lamps of the same period. The bowl hangs from 3 thin tubes which have 'ball joints' at the top, one of which is 'live' with gas and supplies the flying gas burner unit. This is a very 'up-market'  version, the more usual ones had a central pipe and standard burner unit with the bowl shade suspended from 3 chains attached to the pipe. Much cheaper to make of course .

Hangs  approx 30 inches overall length, the metalwork is 22 inches long and the glass bowl approx 6 inches tall . Glass bowl is 15 inches max diameter and is 'flakestone' glass with a blue-turquoise marbling fleck .

No damage to the glass.  Hooks are all secure. The brass rods have a few soft bends, no kinks or splits . At the top end the tubes have ball and socket joints allowing the unit to hang vertical, and to swing slightly if knocked ( if stiff it would break something ). One tube also conducts the gas to the burner unit . There is some bending to the rather thin corner tube where burner unit fits, but not cracked.  The tap needs 2 small chains and pull rings, that come thru the eyelets in the 'loop end' of the rod. Tap needs cleaning and greasing, very stiff, and a fibre washer where it screws on .

Burner is heavy with an iron and brass superheater and 2 small invert mantle nozzles. Nozzles are a bit pitted but will still hang mantles. The tap incorporates a by-pass, which opens a pilot supply as the mantles are turned off.  The pilot tube needs replaced as it has split, and could do to be longer in my opinion to get the pilot nozzle nearer the mantles.

Rare to find an example as big and as early as this  with all the original fittings that has not been drilled for electricity. Could be put back to gas , or used with low volt LED lamps which would need no drilling to wire .

Will be very well packed for safe arrival.
