Up for auction is this rare Victorian silver plated miniature kerosene oil lamp, fully working with wicks, chimney and shade gallery.

Lamp is in the form of a 3 handled silver plated Britannia metal ( similar to pewter )  'loving cup' with matching drop in font, fitted with original silver plated Miniature (bijou ) duplex oil lamp burner made by R Evered of Birmingham. Burner is complete with new-old stock wicks (1/2 inch wide ) original 3 inch diameter shade gallery and Griffin brand 'cylinder' chimney . The chimney is designed to be slim so a globe can pass over it .

The lamp stands 19 inches to top of chimney and 7&1/2 inches across handles on a 4&1/2 inch diameter base . The cup is quite heavy so lamp is stable.

The silver plate is quite worn, the base metal showing in places, there is a soft dent, picture 9. Plating to top of font and burner is more worn , due to repeated handling and cleaning. No splits, bent bits or leaks, no drilled holes or repairs. No cracks to chimney.

Burner works perfectly, both wicks wind, no split or missing chimney grips.  It combines the British preference for Duplex burners with the need for a miniature burner for small lamps. See comparison with the standard Hinks duplex burner . Burns perfectly with flames over an inch tall, burns without smell if you use clean kerosene. Supplied with instructions for use.

Shade gallery has a couple of very small splits in the outer rim, but is secure and stable. Takes a shade with a max 78 mm external diameter fitter (just over 3 inches) .Fattest part of the chimney is 66mm diameter.
