THIS IS NOT AN ENTIRE DRILL PRESS. IT IS A SLOW SPEED INTERMEDIATE PULLEY AND ADAPER ONLY.  Example drill press shown to illustrate fit and function only.  No belts included.

READ IT ALL.  It's YOUR Job.  Read it all.

Slow speed drive system specifically to fit Atlas Tabletop Drill Presses badged as Craftsman part number 101.03581.  Atlas made many Craftsman drill presses, likely candidates listed below.  Reduces (or increases) RPM at chuck.  Slower cutting speeds work better for metals.  Larger diameter cutters such as hole saws, paddle and Forstner bits cut better with less heat when turned at proper speeds.  Small diameter bits require higher speeds.  This pulley while capable of cutting your final output speed in 1/2 is also capable of doubling it making bits under 1/8" bits must less fragile.    Add about $350 value to your vintage American iron.

Adapter NEW and made by me in my shop.  Comes assembled and ready to drop in.  Components include cast iron 4 groove pulley, ball bearings, full length steel shaft, steel rotation handle pin,  and ABS adapter.  Made in the style of the original although some dimensions altered to optimize for materials and additive manufacturing process.

1) Your machine MUST have a column with 2" bore (+ or - .032 allowed).  If you have a different size, please contact me.  Photo with caliper was made on a different drill press to show method of measurement.

2) The column must be capable of protruding through the top of the head casting.

3) Made for 4 groove pulley system requiring 1/2" belts or 4L belts. (Converts your 4 speed into a 12 speed with both slower and faster speeds.)

4) Flipping the motor drive pulley over is required.  All of them I have seen can be flipped without machining.  I have not seen yours.

5) Adjusting the head height on the column may be required for best belt alignment.

6) Your belt guard (if so equipped) bottom or base plate must not cover the drill press column. If it does, a hole must be cut approximately 2.375" in diameter to reveal the tube opening if yours is covered.

7) Craftsman and Atlas drill presses must have swoopy wave like casting on top surface.  Check my other listings for flat top head castings.  Setup extends pulley up to height of spindle pulley from lower location of column tube top as the rare factory accessory did.

This item includes: Metal pulley loaded with ball bearings, my Atlas factory style  pivot column adapter and locking clamp assembled and made to drop into your 2.0~" id column.  The column adapter is manufactured by additive process in ABS.  Several post processes including boring for quality fit of components.  Assembly is made by me in my shop including made, sourced and modified parts.  The drill press, belts and any other objects in photos are props used to illustrate application of slow speed update kit and are not included.

Don't buy this hoping it will fit.  MEASURE THE BORE of your column.  If your bore is different, please send me a photos of your drill press, caliper measurements and model of drill press.  I just might make a special one for you.

Photo Key:

Photo 1:  Actual item you will be getting in Photo 1.

Photo 2: Example of Craftsman 101.03581.   Example drill press for identification ONLY and not for sale.  Photo credit to Vintagemachinery.  Note wave or swoop in head shape.  This slow speed drive (show in photo 1) will not fit a flat top drill press of any kind.

Photo 3:  Example of measuring your column tube.  Note this is a different tube from a different drill press and is intended to show process only.

Photo 4:  Example of belt guard might be marked "Atlas".  Yours might be marked "Craftsman" or maybe even "Companion".  Belt guard is not included or for sale, photo is provided for brand recognition only.

Photo 5: Example of slow speed on customers 101.03581.  Designed it for him.  The drill press is not for sale.  Only a slow speed drive, provide your own belts. (notice customer us using 4L (1/2" width) belt 27" in front, 24" in rear.  Sizes not included or guaranteed just showing you what another did successfully with his drill press.)  Installation is perfect with pivot point offset to operators right, pulley offset to operators left.  Securing bolt in adapter lightly snugged.

Photo 6: Same as 5 shown with belt guard removed. (photos 5 & 6 credit to Bob of Ackley, IA.  THANKS!)

Photo 7: Opposite side of example installation in 101.03581.  (Only item in photo 1 is being offered for sale, this item is not a complete drill press.)

Other model Craftsman drill presses this may fit.  I said "May Fit".   These are very similar models from the same era.  As always measure your column bore.  It should be about 2.000" ID (+/- .032).  If so, you have a winner and be sure to let me know.  Possible: 101.03580, 101.03582, 101.03622.   (All these models look like they have the same or similar head stock castings and columns.  Measure your column bore before ordering.)

If you find other Swoopy head Craftsman or Atlas units with a 2" Column bore, please let me know.

DO NOT RELY ON ABOVE LIST.  It is up to you to MEASURE YOUR TUBE ID.  This item fits 2.0" tube ID.  Let me know if you need something different.  You are buying the item in photo 1 only.  Everything else shown is examples of installation and models the drive shown in photo 1 will fit and how it fits.

This is not a buy it and try it listing.  I can't afford shoppers.  Make sure you have the correct drill press and measure before ordering.  There will be a 25% restocking charge if you return.  I just want a simple life where I sell my cool things to people who want them.  ;-)
