William Gardner Blackwood was born on 26 March 1892 at Holly Bank, Kilcreggan, Dunbarton, Scotland, He emigrated to Canada, and arrived at Quebec 4th Sep 1927 with his wife and young son he then began what appears to be a wonderful period of work in watercolors and oils shortly after the first appearance of the Group of Seven's art in the 1920's before he vanishes from Canada's emerging art world, only to reappear as a SIMPSON'S artist which was prevalent from the 1930's to the 1960's, the department store enlisting the works of listed and well known Canadian painters and selling them through their department stores. He is a listed Canadian artist and is represented with the Art Gallery of Ontario - Edward P. Taylor Research Library and Archives and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts - Library.
