Authentic 1988 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony Outfit - Sweater, Skirt, Blouse 

This is a rare item - was distributed only to athletes and staff that were part of the United States delegation to the U.S. Olympic Games in Seoul Korea.  The seller worked for the U.S. Olympic Committee and received this as part of team apparel.  It has been worn once during the Opening Ceremonies of those Games and has been lovingly stored ever since.  Now time to share. 

Adidas was the official outfitter of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, however, Susan Bristol and Susan Bourget as head designer, were contracted to create this one-of-a kind Opening Ceremonies outfit.  Details about Susan Bourget follow:

Susan's professional career began in the 1970s designing and creating custom clothing at The Workshop in Duxbury, later moving to Plympton. As her reputation and success grew, she became the head designer for the Susan Bristol Company in Boston, while commuting to Hong Kong to oversee the production. During this tenure she was awarded the contract to design the U.S. Women’s Olympic Team uniform for the 1988 opening ceremony of the summer games in Seoul, South Korea.

The sweater is a cotton blend with a white "ribbon" running across that is supposed to be reflective of a flag waiving.  Double button front at the waist with hand embroidered Olympic logo and floral accents.  It has slight shoulder pads for fit (and as was the rage in the 1980s) Size Medium. Label in the sweater reads: "Made for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, Susan Bristol for adidas."  

Measures:  Chest laying flat: 19.5"    Shoulder to Hem: 23.5"    Waist laying flat: 13.5" 

The skirt and blouse are made of 100% cotton bespoke fabric with a subtle olympic wreath and logo pattern. 

Fabric has a slight sheen to the pattern. Label in the items read: "Made for the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team, Susan Bourget for adidas."  

The blouse has a front pocket with the logo, slight shoulder pads. Some pleating at the sleeve shoulder for a slight puff. Size Medium   Chest laying flat: 18"   Shoulder to hem: 26"  Sleeve: 23" 

The skirt is pleated with a flat panel in front and elastic.  Button and zipper in back.  Size Medium

Waist laying flat: 13.5"   Length: 31.5"  (Hem needs partial repair - seam has released, see photo) 

There is some slight yellowing discoloration in portions of the skirt and blouse.  The items were laundered after these photos and much of this came out.  The sweater has slight discoloration along one sleeve.  See photos.
