Please find for offer an excellent carved oak statue of the Penitent Mary Magdalene, dating to the second half of the 17th century. This fine carving depicts a full-length portrait of a reclining Mary Magdalene holding a skull. The piece is masterfully observed from the intricate drapery of her clothes to the delicate detail of her fingers and toes. Mary's face and the skull she is holding, symbolising the fragility of our mortality, are particularly finely carved. The whole piece is of an exceptional quality and has developed an excellent patina.

Length: 52.7cm. Height: 18.5cm. Depth: 12.9cm (max).

Condition:
Right foot has been reattached – small part of it and ankle missing. The tip of the big toe on both feet is chipped. Old inactive traces of worm to the reverse. Age related wear as expected but overall in good condition. Please examine photos carefully.
