Native American Ceremony Prayer Smudge Feather Wand A

This beautiful 2 feather blade contains smudging feathers consisting of two wild turkey feathers with the feather ends wrapped tight with waxed string. Each feather set consists of one hard to find a wild bronze turkey tail and one bronze turkey skirt feather. It measures 16 inches long and 4 inches wide at it's widest point across the top. Our Navajo feather artist will make us several sets of the smudge feathers when the feathers are available so the set may not match exactly as the photo shows as they are all one of a kind and original.

In Native American ceremonies certain herbs are burned separate or together as prayers and are said to “cleanse” ones self or certain areas or items.  As the herbs are burned and area cleansed, this is referred to as smudging. As the smoke rises from the burning herbs the Native Americans view this as the prayers being sent out to the universe through the spiritual smoke. Feathers from the earth’s animals are used to fan the burn of the herbs and to send the prayers further in to the spiritual world in a ceremony. Animals represent many different symbols for Native Americans and feathers are very spiritual as they are spiritual symbols that help soar in flight not only the Eagle but the Raven and many other spiritual winged animals. To own Native American smudging feathers is an honor and a collectible.

Our smudging feathers are handmade by artist Native Bear Dan Kullas and a small tribe in southern Arizona. We use all natural turkey and pheasant feathers unless otherwise noted. We also use reproduced painted eagle feathers. We use a natural waxed rope string and leather strips. Our beads are made from either glass or plastic.

Since the dawn of times plants have been our sacred connection to our mother earth. Plants feed, cure, and shelter us; and legends abound of the power of chosen plants to heal and protect the wise. Native traditions relate that wherever sage and cedar are used, no evil influences may enter.

To “smudge” is to purify with smoke from certain sacred herbs. The sacred ritual of purifying with smoke comes from native peoples in both North and South America. In North America the smoke is created by burning sacred herbs such as sage, cedar, sweet grass and juniper. Smoke may be used to purify the body, spirit, pet, home, office and healing rooms, any space or item in your world

Our smudge stick are 100% natural aromatic botanical. The herbs were gathered in an ecologically sound and respectful way. The plants are not harmed and nothing is wasted. Our bundles are made for you as tools of empowerment! Enjoy!

We travel to New Mexico, the Native American jewelry capital of the world, and visit other artists throughout the Southwest 4 to 5 times a year to purchase direct from the traders or the artists themselves. My mother was born and raised in the West and still lives and works in the Grand Canyon. The Native Americans have always been a part of our lives and we have always surrounded ourselves with their culture and beautiful works of art.

All of our items are bought directly from individual artists or from well established, well known wholesalers and traders between Gallup, the reservations, Santa Fe and Albuquerque. We love to buy directly from the artists so we can support their craft as well as provide them a living for their incredible talents. It helps to bypass the middleman so we can send money back to our adopted families at the reservation.

It is against the law to post an item as authentic Native American if it is not. We do our best to describe each piece by the description, where it came from and the artist. We guarantee you will not find any fake, cheap or imported jewelry on our site. All of our items are Authentic Native works of art. All of our jewelry contains genuine silver, silver, gold and contains no pot metal, nickel, rhodium, pewter or other precious metal substitutes.

We are very lucky to be involved with the culture and rituals and to personally know many artists and their families as well as many traders that connect us to the reservations and circle of friends. We are honored to be able to bring their treasures to the rest of the world.
