The adhesive ring sits between the backing paper and the 3m ring.

You should peel the backing paper away from the ring, then offer your lens on to the exposed sticky side of the ring, 

then when you peel away the 3m ring, the adhesive should then be left attached to your lens ready to fit to the phone.
