This is a RARE BROWN Senior Aide Girl Scout Bar.   It has a recessed PAINTED surface and is in Excellent ConditionFrom 1953 - 1974 it was given for service to a Ranger.  For some unknown reason, the brown was discontinued and replaced with the TAN pin for the same Ranger service in 1974 making this brown quite RARE.  This pin is in Very Good Condition with a tiny speck of paint missing that you can hardly see.   It is definitely one of the Hardest to Find colors.   All of my Service Bars have been stored in coin boards or individual bags to prevent further chipping.

Further Information:

Senior Aide Bars, 1953-1979, Volunteer Service Bars, 1980-1994, or Community Service Bars as they are currently called, required 25 hours of service after several hours of training.  They were not commonly earned and some particular colors are VERY HARD TO FIND.    These pins were originally issued as a slightly recessed rectangle, painted various colors, and had a J-Hook Catch.  The paint was extremely fragile making flawless Painted pins nearly impossible to find.  In 1980, the name was changed to Volunteer Service Bars and the pins were issued with an enamel coating of color that was smooth instead of recessed.  The color on these later pins is not fragile at all, but the catch breaks off easily.  I'm sure that is why in 1995 the catch was changed to a clutch back, which apparently is more reliable.  Currently, this program has been reduced to THREE pins, and they are now called Community Service pins.  All of my Service Bars have been stored in coin boards or individual bags to prevent further chipping.

Condition Definitions:

  • MINT: New from the factory. Never been sewn or glued. Has no visible flaws or stains.
  • EXCELLENT: Has one minor flaw, perhaps a tiny spot or thread break, or something very minor to keep it from being mint. No sewing holes will show. It will still have excellent display and appreciation value.
  • VERY GOOD: Usually has sewing holes, but might also have another flaw making it a good purchase for a rare or hard to find badge for your collection. I'll point out if a crimped edge has been cut
  • GOOD: Usually sewing holes and some fading or stains. Only advisable for the Very RARE badge or patch. I'll point out if a crimped edge has been cut
