Lacquering is generally known as the process of painting a gold design on a black or vermillion ground. In Tsugaru lacquering, the process of coating, whetting and polishing is repeated around 50 times to create a pattern with many layers. The result is a characteristic appearance in one of around ten vivid, colorful patterns, such as gold set into red, green or black ground, which can be enjoyed by all.
