Here is a Socket 478 CPU from Intel running at 3000 MHz.  It uses the "Northwood C" core with 512KB of level 2 cache memory and a front side bus speed of 800 MHz. It also uses Hyperthreading technology, which means that when tasks are pipelined, no half of the CPU is slacking off waiting very long for a bottleneck in another half of the CPU. Windows task manager reports this as a dual core CPU, because it has Hyperthreading, although it has a single core. This is one of the fastest Northwood Pentium 4 CPU Intel made.  As such, it is a popular upgrade CPU for systems which shipped with a 2.4 or 2.6 GHz  CPU and support for 800 MHz FSB.  There are many socket 478 systems which can handle this CPU, but not a Prescott Pentium 4 with 1MB L2 cache. Also, this gives similar performance to the Prescott 3+ GHz Pentium 4, but it runs much cooler (69 Watts vs 89 Watts).  This CPU is compatible with later socket 478 systems. It will probably not work as an upgrade CPU in a system which originally shipped with a Celeron or Pentium 4 of 2.26 GHz or less. Please check your system documentation for compatibility, and make sure your RAM is fast enough and that your motherboard's chipset supports an 800 MHz front side bus.  You might also need to install a BIOS update from your system or motherboard manufacturer to get this CPU recognized properly.
