The Japanese Ronin Warrior Handmade Black Shirasaya Katana is constructed of 1090 carbon steel that has been clay tempered which makes the steel harder and enables the blade to retain a sharp edge. This katana is named for Ronin Japanese warriors. A Ronin was a samurai with no lord or master during the feudal period of Japan. A samurai became masterless from the death or fall of his master, or after the loss of his master's favor or privilege. This sword has a sleek design with clean lines creating beauty in its simplicity. Traditionally the Shirasaya design was intended primarily for storage. They used to transport high quality blades to and from the polishers, or for shipping a blade to a collector who intended to install their own custom fittings. The tsuka (handle) and the saya (scabbard) on this Shirasaya are wooden with a black glossy finish meeting in perfect symmetry. The sword is full tang and double pegged.
If you look closely to the tsuka you can see both pegs. When sheathed, this sword looks like a solid piece of wood, save the wooden tang pegs. This piece comes slightly oiled to prevent rusting and prolong the life of the blade. A black sword bag will be included with the sword.
