PRODUCT PERFORMANCE ADVICE - Bottomless portafilters are a great aid to help any coffee enthusiast perfect their technique. Factors such as the fineness of the grind, the consistency and pressure of the tamp, the type and freshness of coffee used and the pressure of the water coming out of the grouphead can all affect the resulting shot. Bottomless portafilters easily show these issues up as the resulting shot may not pour as expected. An example might be using a bottomless portafilter on a machine with a 15 bar grouphead pressure and dry shop bought vacuum packeted coffee. This will almost certainly result in a 'splatter' effect and not the perfect shot we all aspire to.
