  • Shimano Ultegra C14 XTB Reel

If you are after a high powered big pit reel for all your carp fishing needs, then you need to look no further the Ultegra CI4+ XTB from Shimano. Shimano has been producing top quality reels since 1970 and are widely considered to be at the forefront of international reel development technology. This reel puts all of this technology into practise.

CI4+ is Shimano’s breakthrough material. Developed by the Shimano cycling division to reduce bike weight, CI4+ is ultra-light, ultra-strong, and ultra-sensitive. For the angler this translates into a big pit reel that feels almost weightless on your rod whilst at the same time allowing you maximum fish playing ability. Ultra-rigid, CI4+ reduces twist in the body of the reel which, when combined with Dyna-balance (Shimano’s reel balancing technology to reduce reel wobble) allows you to have full control over your equipment. In short, with CI4+ you’re able to focus on what really matters – the fish on the end of your line.

Super slow two speed oscillation and Aero Wrap II technology ensures that as you cast you maintain maximum line speed for perfect line lay. The AR-C spool, Shimano’s go-to design for a powerful big pit reel, is fitted with a specialised angled spool lip. This spool lip lets he line fly from the reel unencumbered by friction, allowing you to achieve a high speed long distance cast.

On the retrieve X-Ship gearing comes into full play. X-Ship is Shimano’s engineering system which supports the pinion gear so as to hold it precisely in line with the drive gear. This means that you’re able to achieve significantly greater cranking power with each handle turn and allows you to bring in 103cm and 105cm of line per handle turn (on the 14000 and 5500 respectively). The 14000 is supplied with three line reducers and the 5500 with two (per spool) to ensure these rods will cover virtually any angling situation.
