Ethernet Shield W5100 Network Expansion Board

 

With this Ethernet Shield, your Arduino development board (not included) can be used to connect to internet; this allows you to build web capabilities into your projects, from observing sensor outputs from your browser to turning the lights on from a webpage.  It can be used as a server or client and plugs directly into your Arduino development board with no soldering required (The Ethernet Shield sits on top of the Arduino).  This is the latest version of this Ethernet Shield; it is based on the Wiznet W5100 Ethernet chip and is directly supported by the official Arduino Ethernet Library.  It has a micro-SD card slot, which can be used to store files for serving over the network.  It is compatible with the Duemilanove (168 or 328), Uno as well as the Mega (1280/2560) Ardiuno development boards.  The Wiznet W5100 provides a network (IP) stack capable of both TCP and UDP.  It supports up to four simultaneous socket connections.

INSTRUCTIONS

To operate this module, you will need to download the ‘Arduino IDE’. 

 

Arduino Uno: Pins 10, 11, 12 and 13.

Arduino Mega: Pins 50, 51 and 52.  

 

On both development boards, Pin 10 is used to select the W5100 and pin 4 for the SD card.  These pins cannot be used for general inputs and outputs. 

 

Use the Arduino Ethernet Library to write sketches which connect to the internet using this Shield.
