This is a wonderful Old Carved Wood Kwoma Dance Mask from the Lower
Sepik River Region of Papua New Guinea. This mask is carved from dense
hard wood and represents a mythical being from the remote Kwoma people.
Both ears are pierced and their are holes surrounding the mask where
the dancer would secure his costume. The mask has its long angular nose
that rejoins the face, round eyes, and the heavyset brow which is
indicative to the people of this region. This masked dancer in a very
elaborate costume would dance in very special ceremony's. This is a
strong and powerful mask and would make a wonderful addition to your
collection.
