The Hitachi 63C09EP is a direct replacement of the Motorola 6809E microprocessor. It is 100% compatible with any Tandy/Radio Shack Color Computer 1,2, or 3 or Dragon 32/64 computers.

This is a Hitachi 6309 with a external clock CPU option - noted with the E designation.

If you are using this in an arcade game that uses a Motorola MC6809, you need an internal clock (non E) version. The internal and external version ARE NOT COMPATIBLE with each other.

To take full advantage of the CPU, you will need an operating system such as NitrOS9.

The Hitachi 6309E CPU has several advantages over the Motorola 6809E:

• Operates up to 10% faster in native mode.
• 2 additional 8-bit registers and can be concatenated to form a 16-bit accumulator.
• Operates up to 3Mhz clock speed. 
• Hitachi 6309E CPU can operate in 0.89Mhz or 1.78Mhz mode without any mods. 
• 100% compatible with all Tandy/Radio Shack CoCo and Dragon 32/64 computers.
