Mookaite Jasper:  Mookaite is a member of the quartz family just like many other types of Jasper, It has fascinating and beautiful colour characteristics. The colour combinations are predominantly yellow, white, brown, red, and shades of lilac and purple. Mookaite Jasper is found at only one specific region of Western Australia. Named after the place from where it originates, Mooka Station located near the Kennedy Ranges. The origin of the stations name comes from the local Mooka Creek an Aboriginal word meaning running water. Mookaite is a fossiliferous sedimentary rock left behind by deteriorated belemnite layers and sometimes impressions of ammonites. Examinations conclude it is comprised of the remaining parts of modest life forms known as radiolaria that have a skeletal structure of opaline silica. Billions of these creatures were deposited in the shallow ranges of old ocean beds. At the point when the oceans withdrew, the silt was solidified into the rock by silica conveyed in groundwater. The sort silicification fluctuates from spot to spot, shaping opaline, chert and chalcedony.

Further Information: Jasper is a microcrystalline variety of Chalcedony Quartz with a chemical composition, primarily of Silicon Dioxide. Up to 20% percent of Jasper can be composed of foreign materials, typically Hematite, Pyrolusite, Clay or Calcite. In some cases, Jasper may even form together with Agate or Opal.

Jasper is generally considered to be a rock rather than a mineral, because its composition often consists of a numerous combined materials. During Silica’s formation process, it is often left with voids, fissures and cracks, which are later filled by other minerals, such as Iron Oxide, Manganese Dioxide and sometimes organic matter. Depending on the mineral content of the original material, Jasper can form in almost any colour with an infinite number of patterns.

Jasper is incredibly attractive once polished, with a very desirable appearance, it displays a myriad of colours and patterns. Measuring 6.5 - 7 on the Mohs scale, it is the ideal hardness for use in many jewellery pieces. It will withstand everyday wear and tear. It’s also regularly used to produce different varieties of Tumbled Stones, which are extremely collectable. Jasper is also the perfect material for crafting sculptures and ornamental pieces, which are often highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
