- The
Special Edition “SER-7” EPROM for the Yamaha DX7 enhances the performance
and MIDI capabilities of the unit.
- Included will be 1 new EPROM chip to complete the upgrade.
- All EPROM upgrade chips supplied here are brand new, recently
manufactured and sourced directly from ATMEL to ensure data integrity well
past our natural lifetime.
The actual DX7 unit is not for
sale, only the SER-7 upgrade chip kit will be supplied.
This upgrade is only compatible with the
standard DX7, not the DX7 with the Grey
Matter upgrade board nor DX7S or the D7X IID series. If you are looking for

- There are different
hardware revisions of the DX7. This can affect the ability to upgrade to
the SER-7 ROM. It is best to check what you have before purchasing:
Earlier board revisions employed 2 ROM IC’s located in socket IC14 and
IC15 and usually have a serial number of 2660 and lower.
- Having this early hardware
revision means that modifications need to be made to the mainboard in
order to utilize the SER-7 upgrade. This will require soldering work to
complete.
- Features offered in the
SER-7 ROM are as follows:
- The standard DX7 can only
transmit on MIDI channel 1. With this “SER-7” Special Edition EPROM
upgrade it is now possible to transmit on any of the 16 MIDI capable
channels.
- Function parameters for
each Voice can now be saved to Internal Memory or a RAM cartridge.
- Current Master Tune
settings are displayed.
- Expanded MIDI Channel
Information features now allow you to enable or disable Program and
Control changes.
- Expanded MIDI System
Information On/Off features allow transmission of system exclusive data of
a single Voice or all 32 Voices contained in Internal Memory.
- Initialization feature
allows for initializing Function parameters of a single Voice or all 32
Voices.
- An enhanced MIDI Receive
feature allows selection of Omni mode or any one of the MIDI channels 1
through 16.
- An enhanced MIDI Transmit
feature allows setting to any one of the 16 MIDI channels.
- After touch On/Off feature.
This parameter can now be stored with each individual Voice.
- An enhanced Main Volume
Transmit feature allows transmission of MIDI volume data by utilizing the
Volume jack with a FC7 Foot Pedal. This parameter can be stored to each
voice.
Unlike some others, No used
or refurbished as “new” components will be supplied here. Protect your
investment!
Be sure to take note of the
marked orientation notch on the side of the EPROM to ensure correct
installation. EPROMS inserted backwards will be destroyed. Incorrect insertion
of ICs is also likely to cause damage to the board.
All EPROM upgrades have been prepared in an
ESD-safe production environment and will be packaged in equally ESD-safe materials.
