This Olympus E-510 in exceptionally excellent shape...

This popular camera is solidly built, and this one is in excellent condition, showing only almost no wear. The E-510 has been very well reviewed and is legendary as a great leap forward in the development of Olympus as a serious 21st century photographic equipment company. After being one of the last to the table with IS, they introduced IBIS (in-body image stabilization) on the E-510. It also has the live-view feature, so you can choose to see your subject on the screen instead of the viewfinder. If you like the auto-focus and optical viewfinder of a true DSLR but don’t want to carry something too big and heavy, this is the camera for you! It functions perfectly and takes great pictures, as you will see.

Because of its popularity as a reliable and durable camera, many E-510’s have remained in use for years and have a lot of wear. This one has a shutter count of only 9964, is clean and in excellent condition, showing it was not heavily used and has a lot of life remaining.

Why an E-510, instead of more megapixels?

Compared to its larger “E-Volt” cousins, the E-510 is lighter and more compact. Specifically, the smaller body has still very solid durable construction. It has an impressive 1/4000th sec. fastest shutter speed.

Though 10 MP may sound “small”, compared to some of the new 20 MP models, but once you get above about 8 MP, this is generally not the most important aspect of a camera. More megapixels may be needed for poster-sized prints, but on-screen at on the normal 11 x 14’s or 8 x 10’s, a 10 MP camera will render a perfectly sharp picture. Additionally, the smaller number of MP means each pixel is larger, which allows for optimum reduction of “noise”, and good performance in low light at high-ISO. Many photographers have criticized the manufacturers for trying to cram too many MP into some of the newer models, resulting in degraded quality.

This camera uses both CF and/or XD cards. Dual-card slots are still considered an advanced feature today.

The Pictures...

The first four show this camera and included items. These are pictures of the specific camera you can buy, followed by pictures taken with it, so you know it works (please consider this when comparing to no-returns listings with vague or stock pictures). First we have an indoor picture in fairly low light at 1600 ISO; it was a 1/15th second exposure, so the IS was also useful. Next is an outdoor shot where the built-in flash helps to highlight the Bismarck Palm. Another ISO1600 indoor shot follows, followed by one that shows off the quick auto-focus (shot with a 40-150mm lens, available in another of my listings). A few more images also show the nice look of the E-510’s output. This camera was fun to use, and it was easy to get nice pictures to show you!
