As the story goes, Joseph Bulova got into the watch business strictly “By Accident”. According to a former employee, Joseph Bulova was a Jewelry Maker and had a small shop on Maiden lane in New York’s old jewelry District. He had on staff a Street Smart Office Boy from Brooklyn, John H. Ballard, who had come to work for Bulova at the age of fourteen. In Payment of a Bad Debt, Bulova accepted a small quantity of watches and young Ballard persuaded Bulova to let him try to sell them. After successfully selling them all, he persuaded Bulova to buy more and more and eventually putting the Bulova Name on the Watches in the 1920’s…………………Ballard was the company’s First Salesman, then Sales Manager and ultimately President of Bulova for nearly three decades.
The Very Nice 1940’s case is in Great Condition and showing hardly any wear (need a loupe to see it) and a few pock marks that are barely noticeable. This Bulova Alexander is very Similar to the Bulova Arnold…sans the engraving!!! A Gorgeous Jet Black Dial (refinished), Gold Embossed Numbers, Modern Style Hands make this a Very Cool Looking Watch. The case measures 37mm's Long (1.456 in.), Lug tip to Tip and 27mm's (.984in.) wide (not including crown).
The 10K yellow RGP case (Stainless Back) is in Great condition and houses a 15 Jeweled 10AX Movement that has Just Been Serviced, it Winds, Sets and Keeps Great Time. The Yellow Gold Moderne Style Hands, the Gold Applied Numbers and the Subsidiary Sub-Seconds Dial really set it off.
The New High Quality 14mm Black Stitched Calf Leather Strap measures 7.5 inches (19.05 inches) from the buckle to the third hole in the band, It Perfectly matches this watch, Truly a Smashing watch with lots of Wrist Appeal………….
