THIS TRACTOR IS IN ALL AROUND EXCELLENT OVERALL CONDITION/SHAPE AND AS SUCH YOU WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO EASILY SEE ANY VISIBLE SIGNS OF ABUSE OR DEFECTS. AS YOU CAN SEE FROM MY PICTURES, THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING IS STILL WITH THIS MODEL AND HAS SERVED ITS PURPOSE VERY ADMIRABLY!
THE BODY SHOWS VERY LITTLE SIGNS OF ANY USAGE. THE BODY, BULLDOZER, BACKHOE ATTACHMENT, REMOTE CONTROL AND CHASSIS ARE ALL MADE OF PRESSED TIN AND ALL OF THE "FORD" LOGOS THROUGHOUT THIS TRACTOR ARE NOT STICKERS! THIS IS ALL DONE VIA TIN LITHOGRAPHY AND AS SUCH, ALL ARE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE WITH NO FADING OR BLEEDING OF THE GLUE THROUGH THE LABELS (MAKES SENSE AS NO LABELS DO EXIST!!). THE WORST AREA ON THIS TRACTOR WOULD BE LOCATED ON THE VERY FRONT OF THE HOOD (AND ON TOP). HERE YOU HAVE SOME FRICTION SCRATCHES FROM THE REMOTE CONTROL (AS IT WAS, AT ONE TIME, PLACED INTO THE BOX INCORRECTLY).
ON THE SIDES OF THIS TRACTOR ... IN THE "ENGINE COMPARTMENT" AREA, YOU HAVE A MOLDED SECTION OF RED TRANSLUCENT PLASTIC (ON BOTH SIDES). THIS ALLOWS YOU TO ACTUALLY "SEE" THE PISTONS MOVE UP AND DOWN (WHEN THE FORWARD OR REVERSE DRIVE IS ENGAGED). IN ADDITION, TO ADD A NICE FINISHING TOUCH, THEY ADDED A LIGHT WHICH HIGHLIGHTS THIS ACTION FROM THE INSIDE OUT!! THIS FEATURES WORKS AS DESIGNED AND INTENDED! ALTHOUGH THIS FEATURE IS NOT MENTIONED ON THE ORIGINAL INCLUDED BOX, IT DOES EXIST!
YOU ALSO HAVE A MOVABLE/POWERED FRONT BUCKET (THE BULLDOZER END) WHICH, WHEN ON COMMAND (WHEN PUSHING ONE OR TWO OF THE BUTTONS ON THE REMOTE CONTROL), GOES UP AND DOWN AUTOMATICALLY. THE COOL FEATURE IS THAT NOT ONLY DOES THE BUCKET LIFT ... IT ALSO EXTENDS (TILTS) DOWNWARD TO ACTUALLY MIMIC THE REAL ACTIONS OF A BULLDOZER WHILE EMPTYING IT'S LOAD. IN ADDITION, YOU HAVE A FULLY OPERATING REAR BACKHOE WHICH DOES THE SAME ACTION, ONLY THIS IS PERFORMED BY MANUALLY BY TURNING THE ATTACHED HAND CRANK. THIS BACKHOE ATTACHMENT IS ALSO OPTIONAL TO USE. IN OTHER WORDS, YOU HAVE THE OPTION NOT TO PLACE IT ON THE TRACTOR.... AS IT IS A MANUALLY OPERATED ATTACHMENT IT HAS NO EFFECT ON THE FUNCTIONS OF THE TETHERED REMOTE CONTROL.
SPEAKING OF THE FUNCTIONS..... THIS TRACTOR MOVES ALONG AT A GOOD CLIP IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE DIRECTIONS WITH NO ISSUES AT ALL! YOU HAVE A DESIGNATED BUTTON FOR EACH DIRECTION ON THE TETHERED REMOTE CONTROL.
AS I MENTIONED ABOVE, THE BULLDOZER'S BUCKET DOES OPERATE WITH TWO (2) OF THE FOUR (4) BUTTONS ON THE REMOTE CONTROL. HOWEVER, THE FUNCTION IS CONTINUOUS IN EITHER DIRECTION. IN OTHER WORDS, IF YOU PUSH AND HOLD ONE OF THE BUCKET CONTROL BUTTONS, THE BUCKET WILL EITHER GO UP AND CONTINUE TILL IT COMES BACK DOWN OR IF YOU PUSH ANOTHER BUTTON, GO DOWN AND CONTINUE TILL IT GOES BACK UP. THIS CYCLE IS ENDLESS AN WORKS AS DESIGNED AND AGAIN, YOU HAVE NO ISSUES HERE!
THE CHASSIS IS IN EXCELLENT OVERALL CONDITION/SHAPE. IT IS MADE FULLY OF TIN AND HAS NO RUST, DINGS, CREASES OR ISSUES. HERE IT IS HALLMARKED "JAPAN".
THE REMOTE CONTROL IS WITHOUT A DOUBT, THE WORST FEATURE WITH THIS TRACTOR (NEXT TO THE ORIGINAL BOX THAT IS .... MORE ON THIS LATER). THE YELLOW SHEATH FOR THE STEERING CABLE AND ELECTRICAL WIRES IS SOILED, BUT, IN VERY GOOD OVERALL SHAPE/CONDITION WITH NO OBVIOUS LARGE CRACKS OR SPLITS. I SAY OBVIOUS AS YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO LOCATE A SMALL SPLIT IN ONE OF THE MANY TWISTS, EVEN THOUGHT I DID NOT.
THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT DOUBLES AS THE HAND HELD REMOTE CONTROL. THIS IS MADE OUT OF TIN AND SHOWS A GOOD AMOUNT OF WEAR. THIS TETHERED REMOTE CONTROL IS ORIGINAL TO THIS TRACTOR. YOU HAVE A BUNCH OF SCRATCHES AND SOME SUPERFICIAL CORROSION (AT BEST). IT STILL CLOSES AND LOCKS FIRMLY "CLOSED" WHEN THE BATTERIES ARE IN PLACE. ALL OF THE BUTTONS WORK AS SO SHOWN ON THE INCLUDED ORIGINAL BOX. THE YELLOW STEERING WHEEL HAS A REPAIR AS ONE OF THE THREE SPOKES ONCE CRACKED. THIS WAS REPAIRED BY MY DAD WHO WAS A NUT ABOUT MAKING REPAIRS TO ANY OF HIS MODELS. SO PRIOR TO GLUING THESE PIECES TOGETHER, HE HAND DRILLED INTO BOTH ENDS OF THE BREAKS AND PLACED A TINY METAL PIN TO ADD SERIOUS STRENGTH TO THE BREAK.... THEN HE GLUED THE SPOKE BACK TOGETHER. THIS REPAIR, I WOULD STATE, IS PROBABLY THE STRONGEST OF THE THREE SPOKES NOW IN THIS STEERING WHEEL! I ACTUALLY RECALL SEEING MY DAD MAKE THIS REPAIR THOSE MANY DECADES AGO!
AS I MENTIONED EARLIER ALL OF THE ORIGINAL FEATURES WORK AND WORK WELL. IN FACT, THE STEERING IS SMOOTH, EASY AND REACHES BOTH EXTREMES WITH OUT EFFORT OR BINDING ANYWHERE ALONG THE LINE. AND WHEN IT IS RELEASED, IT SNAPS BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED FROM VEERING OFF TO THE RIGHT (AS DESIGNED).
THE BOX IS IN DECENT OVERALL SHAPE/CONDITION. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS BOX FOUND IT'S WAY INTO ONE OF MY TOWER OF BOXES. AS SUCH, OVER THE DECADES IT GAVE IN TO SOME PRESSURE AND SOME TAPE HAS BEEN ADDED TO BOTH THE INSIDE AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE LID. YOU HAD A PUNCTURE ON THE LID AS WELL IN TWO SPOTS. YOU HAVE SOME ADDED CHIPBOARD AS ONE OF THE SMALLER SIDE ENDS HAD A TEAR AS THE ORIGINAL STAPLES GAVE AWAY. IT STILL SHOWS VERY WELL AND HAS THE BASE WHICH IS IN GOOD SHAPE WITH ONE OF THE ORIGINAL PROTECTIVE INSERTS IN PLACE. THE BASE HAS A SECTION WHICH HAS SOME DAMAGE (AS PICTURED) AS WELL. IT DOES DISPLAY NICELY AND THE GRAPHICS DO STILL POP.
KEEP IN MIND THAT THE PRINTING OF THIS BOX IS DONE A HALF A CENTURY AGO AND IT'S STILL IN GREAT SHAPE/CONDITION AS YOU CAN READ ALL OF THE COPY. BY TODAY'S STANDARDS, IT LEAVES A LOT TO BE DESIRED, BUT HERE AGAIN, THIS IS CLOSE TO BEING 50 YEARS OLD!
