Although a lot of amateurs use the hand crank to drive their action (and makes beautiful creations with it!), the winding motor is the unit that makes “automaton” – the AUTOMATON indeed.
The torque of the main axle is around 80 lb/inch, or 20 kg/cm; the speed is about 2 RPM! The next axle has torque about 20 lb/inch and 4 times faster, recommended for the music movement.
The spring motor also gives to the mechanical dolls the scent of old time, as every Victorian era automaton (the golden era of mechanical dolls) had the one.
Now you can assemble your own motor and build the real mechanical action with it.
