Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise centered on a film series created by George Lucas. The film series began with Star Wars, released on May 25, 1977. This was followed by two sequels: The Empire Strikes Back, released on May 21, 1980, and Return of the Jedi, released on May 25, 1983. The more than two decades after the release of the original film, the series continued with a prequel trilogy; consisting of Episode I: The Phantom Menace, released on May 19, 1999; Episode II: Attack of the Clones, released on May 16, 2002; and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, released on May 19, 2005. And Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled for release on December 18, 2015.
Dark Horse Comics proudly presents Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures. A comic series that is part of the Classic Star Wars series of comics and re-publishes Russ Manning's Star Wars black-and-white newspaper strips which originally ran in 1979 and 1980. The artwork has been colored, reformatted, and retouched by Dark Horse Comics. It is notable for featuring Boba Fett's first ever appearance in print, before the release of Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. These early adventures are best placed about a year prior to the opening of Episode V The Empire Strikes Back. They are clearly distanced from Al Williamson's newspaper work, which is best seen as occurring closer to the end of Episode IV A New Hope. Russ Manning's Classic Star Wars: The Early Adventures sends the young Jedi knight Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and ’droids, R2D2 and C3PO off on some of their most memorable adventures. It all kicks off as the heroes set off to Vorzyd 5, the Gamblers’ World, to try to put an end to a major source of the Empire’s funding. Instead, they are quickly captured by Darth Vader’s storm troopers. Once in his grasp, Vader plans to torture them until they reveal the name of their contact in the Rebellion so he can crush it once and for all.

What has come before... Luke, Leia, and the droids have come to Vorzyd 5, the "Gambler's World," to meet fellow Rebels and disrupt the Empire's main source of income. But a sinister being named Blackhole is dispatched by Darth Vader to ensure that their plan fails, and that they are quietly captured so as not to arouse sympathy for the Rebellion. In a darkened conveyor tube, Blackhole's stormtroopers capture Luke and Leia. The droids are left to find some way to rescue their master, but they are hindered by a roving gang of juvenile delinquents. Saved by some quick thinking, Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio desperately try to find a way to get on board the ship where Luke and Leia are being held under paralysis beams along with Paxin and Falud, two local Rebels...
Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio continue their search for the kidnapped Luke and Leia on Gambler's World. The two droids come up with some innovative plans to rescue their masters, but will they work against the scheming of Darth Vader and the mysterious Blackhole? These strips, which ran in newspapers from 1979 to 1980, have been reformatted and expertly retouched by Rick Hoberg, who worked with Russ Manning on the original newspaper strips. Hoberg adds a great color cover to top off the package.

Meanwhile, Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio go shopping for weapons to protect their master, little knowing that they are being stalked...
Having finally met up with the rebels of Vorzyd 5, Luke is selected to meet with the secret government contact who can help the Rebel Alliance defeat the Empire. But as he follows the instructions on his way to meet the contact, he is closely monitored by Blackhole's personal cadre of stormtroopers! Meanwhile, Princess Leia has been kidnapped by the gang of freelies, who want nothing to do with the Rebel Alliance, or the Empire, for that matter!
