From the time I captured my first swarm in the mid 1960's I have never had Small Hive Beetles (knock on wood). Fortunately this is the one product that I have not been able to field test in my own hives.  Apart from being a hobby beekeeper, I design and build plastic injection molds, so when I read about the SHB problems and how some methods were helping, I decided to make this trap.

The traps can be mounted any place where there is a 3/8" clearance, on the sides, under the top or flat on the bottom of your hive.

THE FUZZY PAD IS A PIECE OF A SWIFFER PAD and is where the beetles legs become entrapped.  Giving the pad a gentle brush with an old tooth brush or other small brush before positioning your trap makes it even more effective and is recommended.

The trap is designed to provide space for the SHB to run into when being chased by the bees.  The space is too small for the bees and once the SHB enters the trap they become entrapped in the SWIFFER PAD.  A small cup shape has been molded into the center of the trap and can be filled with a bait (three bate recipes are provided) that will attract the beetles and attract them further to cross the PAD.

These are the SHB traps supplied with my new Honey Factory Bee Hive sold separately.
For further information on appearance, please refer to pics in my Honey Factory Bee Hive listing.

The last pic, before and after, is came from a hive after being installed for about 2 weeks, the beetles, or maybe the bees beat up the pad, but they didn't escape

This message received from Steve in Virginia "I CHECKED THE TRAPS TODAY...THERE WAS ABOUT 15 BEETLES IN EACH TRAP..... I PUT ONE OF THEM IN 2 DIFFERNT HIVES … AND ADD THIS TO THE PICTURE.... IT IS ONLY ABOUT 50 DEGREES HERE" He also said he teases the Swiffer TM pad with a toothbrush to make the fibers stand up.
