These Olds NA50VW Bb clarinets, whilst branded as an Olds instrument, were made at the famous Amati factory in the Czech Republic. We are very impressed with the quality of build (it is the only student model we can offer that is made in Europe). I suspect that these items were part of a surplus order (placed by Olds in America) which is why we can offer them at such a low price. Any other clarinet built in Europe would not be less than £500. The compare favourably with the Yamaha model (from Indonesia) and the Buffet model (from China). They care highly recommended for such a low price.

Product Description

These clarinets would suit a beginner looking for a good-quality, modern student instrument at an affordable cost. The construction of the instrument is good - superior to that of an equivalent model produced in China. The Olds student clarinet would be comparable to a Jupiter JCL637 or a Buffet BC2541 Prodige, both of which Rosehill also stocks in new and second-hand/refurbished conditions. You would be more than welcome to come to the showroom and try our full range of clarinets.

Because of its high-quality construction and materials, the instrument is robust. The key-work will withstand the pressure that comes from putting the clarinet together and taking it apart again, which can bend keys and render the instrument unplayable. It is often the case that when a student is learning to put together and take apart a clarinet, the keys of lesser-quality instruments get bent far more easily than that of a good-quality clarinet such as the Olds NA50VW. It would certainly be suitable for a youngster first starting to play.

This clarinet has a very good sound-quality and is easy to blow. It produces a strong, vibrant tone, which will carry a player from their first notes through to approximately grade 5, a level where most players find they need to upgrade to at least an intermediate-level instrument.

Condition Description

As with all of our instruments of any age, this clarinet has been checked and tested by our on-site, woodwind technician to ensure complete function. Consequently, the mechanical condition is excellent; in fact, our technician, who is also the repairer of Yamaha instruments, has reported that he would recommend this instrument to a beginner.

The key-work is strong, and the action is tight, precise and well balanced. All the corks and pads have been seated accurately, which helps with the sound-quality and general playability of the clarinet.

Cosmetically, the clarinet is in excellent condition, as expected of a new instrument.

The case is in full working order, and it will protect the instrument well. The latches are all fully functional, and the case closes easily and securely.

If on initial inspection you are disappointed with the item in any way, you may return it and receive a full refund.
