DET-250M2 is a brand of tractor manufactured by the Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant. The abbreviation DET-250 means Diesel-Electric Tractor traction class 250 kN. The first tractor in the USSR with electric transmission. The first power industrial tractor in the USSR.
The tractor is designed to work with a bulldozer and a ripper (in a single dozer-ripping unit). In addition, the tractor can carry equipment on a hole, a crane and a crane machine (to install reinforced concrete pylons of power lines), a trench excavator. The electric transmission, consisting of a mixed-excitation collector generator and an independent excitation collector engine, provides good traction characteristics, high speed at low loads and simplifies the process of controlling the tractor. The tractor's diesel engine, which rotates the traction generator, is a 12-cylinder V-shaped, model B-31M2 (development of a B-2 tank engine), with a capacity of 323 horsepower.
The features of the tractor include engine ejection cooling (exhaust energy is used). This solution is also borrowed from the tanks.
Compared with other Soviet tractors, the DET-250M2 is notable for the increased comfort of the driver’s workplace.
The tractor is also used on the railways for work in the repair trains.
