Origin
The Fixs is a mesh type wheel that was designed by Work and manufactured by Kobe Steel Co. during the early 80's in Japan. The rare mesh wheel was produced for a very short period and was sold in small quantities compared to other Work products. The design of the Fixs is quite unique in that it combines a hollow multi-spoke face with a mesh centre pattern. What makes the Fixs quite unique is that it has been observed as not only a cast but also as a 2 and a 3-piece construction as well. Production coincided with Work's popular Equip line at the Kobe Steel plant where it was produced in one of its 3 variants. Apart from the obvious there were subtle differences between the three, for example, the multi-piece versions featured markings on the inner barrel whereas the cast featured them inside the hub mount. For Work who excelled in producing cast and 3-piece designs, the Fixs was one of the earliest wheels by the company to implement the 2-piece construction at the time.
Condition
The set are in a good condition considering their age. Although the face of the wheel has been painted silver with what looks like an aerosol, it still looks very presentable and the paint is not flaking in any places. The lip of the wheel has been flatted and mechanically polished and cleans up very well and all the wheels come with original valves and caps. There are no buckles or repairs visible and all the wheels run straight and true with a visual and rolling inspection.
The wheels have abrasions on and around the lips from a curb or two (see pics).
