A brief calculation for solar panel with the formulation: EA*D = B + SA*D*8

Here:

D – Days the system can work without external input.

B – The capacity of battery, for example 140AH.

EA – The Amps usage of furniture, assume a Stereo (7.5A), Kettle (2A), TV(12A) and Fridge (40L (24A), 50L(32A), 60L(40A) , 80L(48A) or 100L (56A)).

SA – The Amps provided by solar panel (Can be found from the parameters of solar panel).

Then to get the solar panel needed for a certain days holiday:

SA = (EA*D-B)/(8*D)

To get how many days the system can work based on a solar system:

D= B/(EA-8*SA)

Example 1:  You have a 100AH battery, 80L Fridge and you plan a 5 days holiday, the current of the solar system should be:

SA = (69.5*5-100)/(8*5) = 6.2 A

With 20% margin, the current should be 7.4, and the system needs to be 140W.

Example 2: You have a 100AH battery, 100L Fridge and 160W solar system, then the days your system can support will be:

D = 100/(77.5 – 8* 8.6)=11.5.

Considering around 20% margin, your holiday can be 9 to 10 days without worrying power system.
