Antique French Sterling Silver Clad Knives, Art Nouveau,

Joseph Crossard, Paris, 12 pcs

Each of these twelve antique French sterling silver clad knives bears the French “Minerve Premier Titre” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. The Minerve Premier Titre is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. They also bears the maker’s mark of Joseph Crossard, master silversmith in Paris, located in the rue de Montmorency between 1900 and 1920. The maker’s mark consists of the initials “J” and “C” surrounding the image of a bishop’s crozier (Crosse d’évêque) and the letters “ARD”. Crozier, “crosse” in French, plus the letters “ARD” make up the name Crossard. The steel blades are stamped “Paris”. The sterling silver clad handles are beautifully designed in a pure Art Nouveau motif with iris. These knives show darkened areas on the blades, a slight gap at the junction of the blade and handle, and four knives have cracks around the upper part of the handle, all commensurate with their great age and not affecting the solidity of the pieces.  Please refer to the detailed photos on this page. This beautiful set of Art Nouveau knives will be an authentic French addition to your table setting or your collection.
