Lovely set of volumes of children’s tales from J.N. Bouilly. A politician and writer, these tales for children were written in approximately 1824-1825; this set is the third edition. Illustrated with a full page plate for each tale and often a vignette at the end having to do with the tale. The set is in good condition with some issues to the bindings. The leather is scraped or peeled away on the second volume (see photos) but intact on volume one with the exception of a scraped area on the back hinge. Decorated with gilt edging around the edge of each. illustrations are engraved by Rouarge after the work of Chasselat and are excellent with tissue overlays intact and some transfer to the overlays. Pretty spines and marbled edges.
