Found at an estate sale, this exquisitely detailed vintage 2.5" x 4.25" framed hand-colored miniature engraving by Dutch artist Gerald van Berkel (1920-1980) is entitled "Molen te Weesp". It shows a classic view of a Dutch windmill beside a waterway.

It's framed under glass in an attractive 4.6” x 6.25” wood frame. It’s titled and signed “v. Berkel” in the bottom margin. It appears to me to be signed in the plate, meaning that the signature is a reproduction rather than an original.  One photo shows a ruler for scale. I’d originally thought the artist was Peter Van Berkel but an eBay member has been kind enough to inform me that it’s by Gerald.

As is unfortunately all too often the case at estate sales, I wasn't able to learn anything about the age or history of this lovely hand-colored engraving, which I’d guess to date from the 1970’s. On the back is a label from an art framing shop in the Netherlands (see photos).  Two photos show details of this hand-colored engraving as viewed through a 10X loupe.

Over the years the finish of the frame has unfortunately acquired some slight scratches (see photos).
