VERY OLD AND RARE LARGE OPIUM SCALE. HAND CARVED TEAKWOOD CASE WITH LARGE BRASS SCALES AND BUFFALO BONE BEAM AND BRONZE WEIGHT. OPIUM SCALES LIKE THIS WERE USED THROUGHOUT SOUTHEAST ASIA AND CHINA WHEN THE SUBSTANCE WAS WIDELY USED IN THE REGION. MOST NOTABLY OPIUM WAS PRODUCED BY THE LISU HILL TRIBE. (note the photo of the Lisu woman above that I took during my trip.
