Thomas Newton was a biblical scholar and author known for his work annotated work on Milton’s “Paradise Lost” including a biography of the poet and this work, which addresses the various prophecies in the Bible. In very good condition, this rare work covers twenty-six dissertations with an introduction and conclusion. There is some yellowing to the pages from age and occasional foxing. There are a variety of names and some writing inside the front in both pencil and ink: at the top inside are page numbers and references; below this is stamped “Perry Barnes/Baggage and City Express/and Vegetabel Greenhouse/ 210 Essex St., Bangor, Me”; the same is stamped at the top of the facing page while below in ink is “Enoch Pond”, prominent local clergy in Bangor who was president of the Bangor Theological Seminary from 1833 until his death in 1882. Below Rev Pond’s name is “P. Barnes/bought of Miss/ Pond April 25 1882”.
