It is a universal lens hood which fits for any 77 mm filter size lens, also it can be used with a filter and a snap-on lens cap while many lens hood didn't have such function. This Lens Hood, like all other Lens hoods, is primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. It opens as needed to prevent lens flare problems.
