 A beautiful example of a late 19th Century Japanese "Oshi-e" silk figure of a man in traditional costume.
With paper fan, collar, head, hand and feet.
Comes with a copy of an (undated) email from Dr. Clare Pollard, Curator of Japanese Art, Ashmolean Museum, dating the figure, and explaining its history and uses.
She also explains the technique involved in oshi-e.

Appears free from tears, snags and wear.
Paper backing is a little grubby.
Slight creasing to fan and feet.
Colours are deeper than shown in photographs.
