Item Description
Up for your consideration is an Domus Orsoni (Venice) mosaic plaque, representing Jesus in a station of the Cross. The mosaic is set in concrete within a thick bronze frame, and measures 13.75" x 13.75" x .75" thick. These are unique, one-of-a-kind pieces.

Orsoni is perhaps the finest maker of smalti (the vitreous enamel pieces), and the only Venetian maker using real gold leaf and metallics, and they still use their 19th C. technique. Domus Orsoni is known for their sale of the world's finest smalti to artisans, and for their artisan school. Fully completed pieces by their experts rarely come to market. These were made to display their gold tiles with metallic emerald foil tile borders. Currently, I have 11 of these tiles, with some missing stages in-between.
The tile weighs 14 lbs., and is appropriate for mounting within a wall, or masonry (such pieces are often embedded within an exterior wall in the streets of Venice). But, it can be hung from the wall, as there is a mounting hole drilling in the brass at the top center of the mosaic.
It is in excellent condition, free of any damage. These have been in storage ever since they were acquired in 2004. Unfortunately, I do not know the history of these tiles.
One picture shows the entrance sign to their Venetian factory/school made in a similar way. You can see how proud they are of their special gold tiles.
