Silver Ceremonial Buckle

This was a really rare find... indeed. I just returned from Laos where I was fortunate enough to find this really rare old Akha silver ceremonial buckle. Formerly, buckles like were used by Akha men and women on ceremonial dress for festivals, religious holidays, weddings etc. The silver buckle was used to hold ceremonial shirts and/or tunics together. Sometimes several of these buckles would adorn the front of the already spectacular garment lending, even more, glamour to the outfit. Nowadays such pieces are extremely rare as traditional ways are giving way to the modern world. It is especially difficult to find such a large and richly decorated buckle these days.
