How to create a high-quality stencil application

· Practice on scrap paper to see how the paint applies and how much paint you will need.

· Your surface you wish to stencil needs to be clean, grease and dust free.

· Place stencil where you want it, you can cut the stencil if you are stencilling in a narrow place to get the best fit.

· Use low tack masking tape to secure edges of stencil to surface. Or you can use repositionable low tack adhesive spray, which minimizes the paint leaking under the stencil - in my opinion the spray works the best!

· Don’t load your brush or sponge up with too much paint, remove excess. Less is more, the dryer the brush or sponge the better! Use light circular or tapping movements with your brush or sponge and go with the cut of the stencil not against or across it to avoid paint leaking underneath. If using an airbrush, very lightly spray several times, avoid heavy spraying.

· Make sure each coat of paint is completely dry before applying another. Once paint is completely dry you can peel the stencil off to reveal your design. Clean mylar stencil with luke warm water and let dry so it’s ready for you to use next time.
