The gas holes in the ring are drilled, not punched, which ensures a smoother flow of gas and produces a better flame. There are also weep holes in the bottom of the tray to allow proper drainage of water.

BTU's and Flame Height

Ultimately, the success or otherwise of your Gas Fire Pit project is judged by the flame size and height. If you are fueling your fire pit from your domestic gas supply, it is very important to ascertain whether or not your domestic supply has sufficient gas pressure to fuel your gas fire pit. To avoid an expensive mistake and disappointment at the end of the project, consult a qualified gas technician to ensure that you have sufficient gas pressure to give you a decent flame.

The Gas Technician will need to know the BTU rating of the fire pit ring you intend to use and where you are going to build your fire pit. 

Fire Media

Failure to properly cover the fire ring will damage the fire ring​​​​​​​. The ring burner works best under 2 - 4 inches of fire glass. However, when using Propane to fuel your fire pit, It is recommended to use no more than a 2” thick layer of media ON TOP of the Burner. Too much may prevent the propane gas igniting properly above the fire media and any unburned propane gas may sink to the bottom of the fire feature creating a fire hazard. In the eBay Image Gallery we have added a table indicating the amount of fireglass you will need for a given fire pit diameter. The results are in lbs and are calculated based on a 1" depth. Simply multiply the result by the depth of fireglass you need (in inches).

Tips for saving money on Fire Media:

Using lava rock in your fire pit can be a money saver. A base of lava rock used to cover your fire pit gas burner before finishing with a top layer of the more expensive Lava Stone or Fire Glass helps keep the cost down. It also helps prevent gas pockets from forming and allows a more even distribution of gas throughout the fire pit for a better flame. In order to calculate how much lava rock you will need, use the table provided in the Image Gallery at the top of the eBay page.
