Superb all-round variety. The red stalks are long & tender and are reputed to have the lowest content of oxalic acid of all rhubarb. Early maturing, establishes quickly. Can be harvested lightly in the first year by snapping or cutting the outer stalks, that will allow it to clump up for the following season. Excellent for forcing and very easy to grow. Hardy & disease resistant. Eventual height: 60cm (24in). Eventual spread: 1.2m (4ft). Self fertile.
This variety has extra fine flavor and is bitter-free. Great for cooking delicious pies etc.
The leaves can be simmered in hot water to make an insecticide.
The only rhubarb that can be harvested late in the season as the oxalic acid content remains low. (hence the "Perpetual").
Mulch each Autumn with well-rotted organic material. Remove flowering spikes as they appear.
Thank you for visiting and Happy Sowing!
