"The Last Civilian"

Book Cover Illustration

An interesting original gouache/water colour illustration.

Appears to be for the front of a book cover.

Have been unable to attribute the book title "The Last Civilian" to the name Emil von Einem.

(A book entitled The Last Civilian by Ernst Glaeser, Nicholson & Watson, 1936 is catalogued by The British Library but has a different front cover illustration)

The striking image is pasted onto a piece of card and has a mount loosely attached around it.

No artist's signature.

Undated.

The image has been glued to a larger piece of card by all four corners.

The illustration appears in good condition with a tear across the shoulder of the figure in the foreground, approx. 3cms long, and a smaller one, approx. 1 cm long, to the bottom right corner.

There is a crease across the top left hand corner and another under the longer tear.

Creases and tears possibly caused by previous attempts to view the back of the image or remove from the card.

The card has previous adhesive remains on the back and is grubby and stained.

The mount is in reasonably good condition, with light marks.
