This is yet another take on the story of Snow White who is played here by a well cast Lily Collins. But as is so often the case, it's her stepmother, the evil queen, who steals the show. Julia Roberts is just too delicious for words in the role. She has the best lines in the film and she delivers them to perfection. Such fun to see her being so bitchy. Armie Hammer makes for a hunky Prince Charming and Nathan Lane is huge fun as the evil queen's right hand man.

The grandiose sets and mindblowing costumes make this film a visual masterpiece. The whole thing is a bit like a live action version of the animated original - with elements of pantomime and some welcome Eastern influences. There are some well exectued action scenes and also a lot of cgi wizardry. I personally could have done without the latter, but the children enjoyed it. So, overall they got the mix just right and ended up with a family film that has appeal for viewers of all ages. Great entertainment for an afternoon in.
