This image titled "The Bridge" is Plate US.XX from the Special Summer Number of The Studio 1905 titled "Art in Photography with Selected Examples of European and American Work" the British companion to "Camera Work", the highly influential American photo secessionist magazine published by Alfred Stieglitz.

This high quality collectible halftone print measures 11 x 14.5 cms on a sheet  21 x 29 cms.

Born in New York City in 1871 to German immigrant parents, customs attorney John Francis Strauss joined the Camera Club of New York around 1898 and showed in its members’ exhibitions in 1900 and 1901. He was an active committee member, writer and editor but left in 1902 when Alfred Stieglitz also resigned. The same year he went on to be one of the founder members of the prestigious Photo Secession and worked on the groups publication Camerawork from 1903 until 1910. Strauss exhibited his photographs internationally between 1900 and 1909 and his work is held in many major collections worldwide including The Getty Museum, Princeton University and the Library of Congress.
