Qust al Hindi (Indian Costus in english), also known by its scientific name Saussurea Lappa, is a thistle found in the Himalayas, Kashmir, India and Pakistan. The root is dried, and used in many medicinal preparations, and is popular in both Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine.

It is used as a snuff for treating throat and tonsil disease and it is inserted into one side of the mouth of one suffering from pleurisy.”
