1869 hardcover first edition. Scarce. Illustrated. Has stamp of the Institution of Engineers in Scotland on title page and verso of frontis illustration. Cover extremities rubbed with some loss. Folding frontispiece drawing has been imperfectly folded in spots and left edge protrudes a bit from textblock at fore-edge. Title page has smudging. Binding and spine feel tight suggesting a past repair with book adhesive. Spine backstrip has closed transverse tear suggesting same. See photos.
