COR VAN OEL

Cornelis van Oel (Delft, September 25, 1899 - Kockengen, March 5, 1979) was a Dutch graphic artist and painter. He painted cityscapes, landscapes, river views and village views in a naturalistic-romantic style. He also liked to build boats.

Initially he stayed in Delft. He stayed in The Hague from 1920 to 1923, after which he spent the next 2 years in Italy. From 1928 to 1965 he roamed the Netherlands with his self-built boat “De Sonnevaert”. Then he stayed in Kockengen until his death.

Van Oel first attended the Craft School in Delft and then the MTS where he studied Architecture. From 1916 to 1918 he took painting lessons from B.A. Bongers. In 1920 he went to The Hague to study at the Royal Academy of Art.

A number of his works are included in the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
