Unusual large antique copper engraved map of Southeast Asia, by Johann JANSSON (1588-1664), XVIIe Century. 

This map is based on a map of Blaeu of 1635. The map extends from India and Ceylon to New Guinea and northern Australia.

It covers most of the continent of Asia, Persia, India, China, Japan, Indonesia and Philippines. Papoua New Guinea is not finished, and seems attached to Australia. During more than one century, the geographers attached Australia to New Guinea.

With 3 decorative cartouches, the left cartouche wears the dedicace of Henricus Hondius.

Edition : Amsterdam, c. 1640, XVIIe Century, latin edition.


Condition : good condition, antique colors.
